The Dog and The Donkey
Vanmathy Anbarasan
Once upon a time there lived old McDonald wait wait... old McKayla in a farm. It was big and spacious with lots of animals living there. Old McKayla couldn't walk to far or do much work so she had her loyal dog assist her. He was Dex a golden retriever with a shaggy tail. But Dex and a donkey in the farm, Diego would always get into a fight about who was better.
So one day the old lady thought to finish the never ending fight between them. So she told them that they would have a competition. It would be that they both go into the woods and each fetch water in a pail from the creek there, so the two agreed to this, and went into the woods. Dex who acted quickly went to fetch a pail, but on the other hand Diego just kept munching on the hay. Then Dex rushed into the woods eager to finish the competition and win. Diego saw his eagerness and was determined to win whatever prize for himself, so he galloped after Dex with a pail in his mouth. Finally they reached the creek and Diego sat against a tree relaxing while Dex went over to the creek and started filling his pail. Dex stepped inside the creek holding the bucket so it would fill with water. Then he picked it up and was making his way back home, the pail this time felt even heavy.
Diego who was watching this, thought of a plan, so he got up and said oh dear Dex you sing so beautifully, can you sing a song for me? Dex didn't think about things before he started barking because Diego saw the chance and took the bucket from him and raced back home and old McKayla saw him and asked why he was running and Diego made up a lie. "Dex is soo lazy he just sat there when I got the water from the creek and now he's just standing there barking." Dex realized it was a trick and then ran out the woods right when Diego finished telling the old lady the lie.
The old lady eyed both of them then asked where his pail was, but before Dex could answer old McKayla gave Dex a bone and said that Diego will go hungry for the night. "what?!" asked Diego, "I fetched water from the creek in my pail but Dex didn't." "well" said the old lady "I can clearly see that Dex did all the work and you just sat there" "h-how could you tell" asked Diego. "see" said the old lady "Dex has wet paws so he must have stepped into the creek to get water, and you don't have a drop of water on you" she finished. The donkey sighed and went to his pasture. The dog Dex told old McKayla "thank you" and also went to his dog house.
They both learned a lesson that day. The donkey learned to always be truthful and do the right thing even when no one is watching and the dog learned to never do something without thinking it though.
The end
