The BIG, Scary Move
Bridgette Cousineau
By Madelyn Cousineau
‘Clink' went the spoon as Emily stirred her oatmeal gloomily. It was moving day and she was NOT excited to move to a brand new house. She would have to go to a brand new school and she'd have to leave behind all of her friends. They were in Lansing, Michigan and they were moving to Nashville, Tennessee for some strange reason. She had no idea what the reason was but she was not about to let her parents make her move to Nashville!
Just then, Emily's parents came into the room. They had just finished packing the last box and had taped it shut with the last bit of tape that they had.
‘Beep' went the horn of the moving truck out in the front yard. It was waiting for them to start packing all of the boxes up and putting them in the truck. Two movers came into the house and started helping Emily's Mom and Dad take the big boxes out into the big truck. Emily was still eating her breakfast and she tried not to think about the move but it was the only thing on her mind, though she was curious about one thing. When her parents told her about the move they said that they would get her a special surprise once they got to the house.
Emily walked slowly to the car, after all the boxes were packed in the truck. She got in holding her stuffed kitten Meowie. Meowie was her favorite stuffed animal. Now that they were moving from their small apartment to a big house in a big city she would get to have her very own room. Her parents and her shared a room at their apartment but now her parents had their own room and she would get her very own room. They said that nothing would change except for the space around them but she was not excited about that. She was especially not excited about leaving behind all of her friends, especially her best friend Anna. Emily and Anna were friends since they started school together. They had been best friends since they started going to Rainbow Academy. She was super sad to also leave behind her other friends Jasper, James, Jake and Marie. They were her best friends and she was very sad to leave them behind.
She had gotten lost in her thoughts and by now it was about lunch time. They were about all the way to their new house, they just had to pass under some railroad tracks and past the beach. She was really excited to go swimming. Then they went into the neighborhood, it was the fifth house on the right.
The car parked in the driveway of the new house and Emily unbuckled and grabbed Meowie. Then she carefully opened the car door and walked out sadly. She helped bring in some of the boxes of clothes then she went up to her room and stared at the huge space. It was much bigger than the room she shared with her parents already but it would be all hers. Then her dad came in with a box full of her socks, and then a mover came in carrying her bed. All of her essentials were already in the house. Then they went back out to carry the rest of the items inside. Emily however stayed inside and started unpacking her boxes in the corner with her bookshelf at the end and her toy chest in the other corner. Her desk went by the toy chest and her dresser went in the corner.
Then she heard her parents calling her name from downstairs. When she finished unpacking she quickly ran downstairs. They were sitting by the kitchen table and they had a small box. When Emily turned the corner from the bottom of the stairs she heard a tiny meow coming from the box. She was instantly curious. She carefully, quietly crept up next to her parents and they said that she could open the box so she did. Inside was a beautiful grey kitty. Her parents said that he was all hers and she could name him whatever she wanted. Emily decided to name the kitty Meowie the Second. Her and Meowie went up to her room while her parents started to make dinner. Emily introduced Meowie to the stuffed Meowie who was laying on her bed. Then they played a little with some cat toys that were also in the box and she set Meowie the Second's things in the corner. She heard her parents calling her down for dinner. Dinner was ready. Emily and Meowie went down stairs and sat at the kitchen table. Well, Meowie didn't sit at the kitchen table. He sat next to it with his bowl of kitty food. They ate their dinner then Emily went upstairs to get into her pajamas and get ready for bed. She brushed her teeth, then she combed her hair and combed Meowie's fur. She got into bed and Meowie went into her kitty bed, which was right next to Emily's bed. Her parents came in to kiss her good night. After they hugged and kissed her good night, they hugged and kissed Meowie good night. They turned off the light and went to get ready for their bedtime.
Maybe moving isn't so bad after all. The end.
