Broken Things
Harper Johnson
It's hard to love broken things
How they cut you if you try and handle it
It truly didn't mean to
It's pain is worse than your slit
Someone might try and fix it
Use some glue some or tape
But the object isn't the same
Less appealing to the eye with it's worn out shape
One might disregard that
Using it carelessly as they please
Then they cry out in utter shock
When the object snaps under their pressure with ease
Would it take you by shock?
If the object were to speak
Defending themselves and their broken figure
Though went unheard because the pleads were too weak
I bet you wouldn't care
If you shattered a plate or a vase
Just throw it away and replace it
But not for all broken things is the same case
This poem isn't about pottery
And the pointlessness of it's broken state
What if I told you this is about a human
Would your feelings have a different fate?
So don't drop someone carelessly
Creating their worn and withered wings
They won't be the same from that day on
Because it's hard to love broken things
